Bob's alright
"I went in for a check-up and the dermatologist found a skin cancer on my ear," Barker reveals to "The Insider" during a visit to "The Price Is Right" set. "But he also, on my back, found one that was pre-melanoma. Now, that is really dangerous. He said let's get that out right away."
His doctors proceeded to make an incision to remove the tissue and, after conducting a biopsy, determined that they "got it all and then they sewed me up," says Barker.
The experience has led Barker to now encourage others to get annual examinations. "It's tragic that people don't do it. They have to become convinced," he says. "If you are going to be out in the sun without sun block, by all means, get checked."
As for whether he has plans to hang up his mic and retire, Barker admits that, while he has thought about it, the "one thing that stops me is that things are going so well. The shows are top-rated and I thoroughly enjoy doing them. It's tough to walk away."
